In the second edition of the Talking AALL vodcast, Sue Gollagher from James Cook University speaks to Kevan Jones, Learning Advisor at The University of Queensland (UQ). In the conversation, Kevan shares his experience of supporting students with ADHD. He discusses the ADHD coaching program at UQ, offers advice to Learning Advisors, and shares his thoughts about future developments in the space.

Ep.3 Fellowships as a means of recognising ALL educators expertise

In the third edition of the Talking AALL vodcast, and as a follow up to the CIS presentation Fellowships: recognising ALL educators teaching and learning expertise delivered in March 2025 and available from our CIS catalogue page, Sue Gollagher from James Cook University speaks to a group of ALL educators who have completed a HERDSA (Higher Education Research and Development Society of Australasia) or an Advance HE (Higher Education Academy, UK) Fellowship.

In this conversation, they discuss why they chose to do a fellowship, the benefits they experienced, and challenges they faced. They also offer advice to other ALL educators who are considering applying for a fellowship.

Ep.4 Dr Linda Banihashemi, Mathematics Learning Advisor at ACU

The latest Talking AALL vodcast features Dr Linda Banihashemi, a Mathematics Learning Advisor at the Australian Catholic University (ACU), where she supports healthcare students and pre-service teachers in developing strong numeracy and problem-solving skills.

In this episode, Linda talks about Smart Problem Solving, an ACU-based initiative run through the Academic Skills Unit that equips students with practical, AI-supported strategies for solving maths and numeracy problems with confidence. Funded by AALL, the pilot offering is a Canvas unit titled Numeracy for Teaching, designed for early-childhood and primary-education students and those brushing up for the LANTITE numeracy test.

This episode of Talking AALL features Laura Dyer, Lecturer in English for Academic Purposes at the University of Leeds in the UK. Laura talks to us about People, Place, Compassion, Power (or PPCP) a humanistic theory of learning which calls for the teacher to take into account people, place and compassion in developing pedagogical activities.
