This one-day symposium will provide professional development and a forum for practitioners involved in research communication advisory work in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine (STEMM) fields. This is a challenging yet neglected area of academic language and literacy, where practitioners who often have humanities or social sciences backgrounds need to provide disciplinarily relevant guidance to higher degree research (HDR) candidates in STEMM disciplines. The event will focus on the ‘sharing practice’ theme in four main sessions: an address on the dimensions of the role by Dr Margaret Cargill (leading expert in science research communication), talks by practitioners, a masterclass by Dr Cargill on pedagogical strategies and a structured discussion around professional needs and career directions of STEMM research communication advisors.
A detailed program will be provided in advance of the event. Attendance can be in person or online.
