What are the strengths of this practice?: 

A 2 day conference for first year on campus students- focus is on forming connections + focus on writing, critical analysis, avoiding plagiarism and team work- done in an highly interactive manner. Encouragement for students to understand themselves as valued members of the academic community. On-line support made avaibale to students who have registered before and after the conference which is time approximately 6 weeeks into the teaching session

What are the weaknesses?: 

finding the space in the timetable- usually run in the session break near Easter.

What improvements (if any) would you like to make?: 

better on -line support and follow up. Longer term tracking of students

literacy as social practice, collaborative learning, peer learning
